Hi, thanks for the comments. Pretty much any new DSLR will give you the control you need for creative shots. It's not about the equipment.
I guess as an example I have a 7 year old DSLR (the Canon Digital Rebel). Most of my favorite shots are shot with a wide angle (12-24mm). Again, it's not about the equipment. Just make sure the camera you get allows you manual control. Most DSLRs are flexible, offer high quality, and allow you to use less depth of field, etc.
